Description

My name is Ree.

Some folks recognize me as The Pioneer Woman.

Afterwards years of living in Los Angeles, I made a pit stop in my hometown in Oklahoma on the way to a new, exciting life in Chicago. It was during my stay at home this I met Marlboro Man, a mysterious cowboy together with steely blue eyes and a muscular, work-honed body. A strict vegetarian, I fell hard and quick, and before I knew it we were married and living on his ranch in the middle of nowhere, taking care of animals, and managing a brood of four young kids. I had no idea how I'd wound up there, but I knew it was exactly where I belonged.

The Pioneer Woman Cooks is a homespun collection of photography, rural stories, and scrumptious recipes this have defined my experience in the country. I share many of the delicious cowboy-tested recipes I've learned to do during my years as an accidental ranch wife—counting Rib-Eye Steak together with Whiskey Cream Sauce, Lasagna, Fried Chicken, Patsy's Blackberry Cobbler, and Cinnamon Rolls—not to mention several "cowgirl-friendly" dishes, such as Sherried Tomato Soup, Olive Cheese Bread, and CrÈme BrÛlÉe. I show my recipes in full color, step-by-step detail, so it's as simple as pie to follow along.

You'll in addition locate colorful pictures of rural life: cows, horses, country children, and plenty of chaps-wearing cowboys.

I hope you get a kick out of this book of mine. I hope it makes you smile. I hope the recipes get you recognition, accolades, and marriage proposals. And I hope it encourages even the much harried urban cook to slow down, relish the joys of family, nature, and excellent food, and enjoy life.

Customer rating is 5 of 5  Beautiful Book!   2010-03-10
By moolane (Black River Falls, WI)
I purchased this book as a gift for my 17 year old daughter. She has been following the Pioneer Woman blog for some time, so she was very excited to see that a cookbook was published.

When this book arrived, my husband and I stood there and looked at it for a long time. That is just how beautifully done this book is...it makes you want to flip through it and read it! The stories and photographs really add character to the book - making it more than just a cookbook.

As for the recipes? They are awesome! However, these are not recipes that you would want to prepare if you are on a diet. They are good, old-fashioned, hearty foods like people would eat in the old days!! My daughter has only had this book for a couple of weeks and already she has made several recipes from it. My absolute favorite is the chocolate sheet cake. Chocolate sheet cake may not sound very intriguing, but trust me - this cake is good!

Ree Drummond captured thousands of hearts with her blog. Now she gives us this fantastic book full of her ranch-wife recipes. They are hearty enough to satisfy any hard working guy, and yummy enough for the kids too. This book is a treasure. The photography is wonderful (Ree is a photographer herself) showing just how to do the steps in recipes and the end product. Her humor and the beautiful photos of her ranch life make this book a keeper! It is the only cookbook I have bought this year.

I received this cookbook on a Friday afternoon and spent all weekend cooking from it. I LOVE IT!! Everything that I cooked was wonderful. The recipes were easy to follow and I loved reading all the storys that went with each dish. I recommend this cookbook to anyone who doesnt mind fatty, yet tasty food!
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Great cookbook for old cooks and new   2010-03-09

This book has step-by-step directions and just to make it a little bit easier there are pictures for each step. I love her "chatter" through out the book, it really makes it feel like you are cooking with a good friend. This book would be a great gift. The new guy on the cooking seen or the old mamma just trying to spice up her menu would appreciate this is their cookbook library!

I spotted & browsed through this book at a friends house, checked the author out on the internet and peeked into her blog and then went straight over to Amazon to buy the book...
I allowed myself a "lazy day" and curled up on the sofa with some cookies and a cup of tea and read the book cover to cover...it was delightful, and allowed me to not think about work or laundry for a few hours.
I enjoyed the author's pictures of family & friends and their life on the ranch.
Most of the recipes are ones that I am familiar with but I like some of her variations to the recipes.
The recipes look easy to prepare & I love that she includes step by step photos...by the way, I made the "Eggs in a Hole" and hubby got a big kick out of it.
I enjoyed the book for it's simple pleasures....I don't view it as only a cook book but rather as a moment in time, where one happy ranch wife shares a little about herself and family spiced up with some hearty fun recipes. Oh and these are certainly not "diet friendly" recipies...just yummy down home soul food.
