Description
This is the thoroughly revised and updated Second Edition of the hugely successful The Art of Electronics. Widely accepted as the single, authoritative topic and reference on electronic circuit design, together analog and digital, this book has sold over 120,000 copies, and has been translated into eight languages. This book revolutionized the teaching of electronics by emphasizing the methods actually used by circuit designers--a combination of some basic laws, rules of thumb, and a large bag of tricks. The outcome is a largely nonmathematical treatment this encourages circuit intuition, brain storming, and simplified calculations of circuit values and performance. This fully new edition responds to the breakneck pace of modify in electronics together with totally rewritten chapters on microcomputers and microprocessors, substantially revised chapters on digital electronics, on op-amps and precision design, and on construction techniques. Each table has been revised, and many new ones have been added. The new Art of Electronics retains the feeling of informality and simple access this made the first edition so successful and popular.

A must have book for electronics people
2010-02-07
By Ian Macmillan (Melbourne, Australia)
This is an excellent book covering a great deal of modern electronics, even though it is twenty years old. It really is surprising how little has changed in basic electronics since then, including readily available familiar parts.
There is supposedly a semimythical Third Edition somewhere in vapour space, which unfortunately I cannot wait to get...so I got this one, and glad to have it.
From valve days an equivalent would have been the Radiotron Designers Handbook, (F. Langford-Smith) which if you can find a copy is also a must have for your bookshelf!
BEATS ALMOST ALL OTHER ELECTRONICS BOOKS IN ITS CLASS

By John A. Furner (Jeannette, PA)
I fully support this book per my technical background:
1. I had over 2,000 hours of USAF tech schools, from heavy ground communications to computers.
2. As a tech writer, I wrote over 400 H/W and S/W technical manuals over a period of 40 years.
With that said, you now have some measure to gauge the following "need to know" words.
What you need to know about the "Art of Electronics:"
1. It teaches like combined hands-on and classroom theory courses;
2. It's written and presented better than most of the 300 technical books in my home library;
3. It's so lucid, you only need simple math. However, I recommend first year calculus, especially if you intend to enhance your electronics expertise;
4. It covers everything from the purpose and characteristics of simple components to full bore analog and digital designs. Its extensive coverage also includes device data sheets and device-by-device comparison tables.
The "Art of Electronics" is an outstanding book from any perspective.
Enjoy!
Oldie but a goodie

I'm new to electronics - just a nerd who gets interested in everything. I'm a self-learner and i'm about 18 pages into the book so far. It's very heavy into the math and schematics of electronics - exactly the in depth information i want EXCEPT that it will, for many people, require someone with a higher knowledge in this field to explain one or two things. I've got the lab book and haven't really read it along with the book yet (my hobbies are always at conflict with my time). The lab book is about 20$ used on ebay or other sites - but many try for an incredibly inflated price.
For those who want a book that covers most electronic information AND acts as a beautiful reference book: i recommend this!
the only negatives i see is that it IS published in the late eighties and will not cover that past two decades of new technology - but that's why i bought it. I believed (and still do) that one must understand the old to understand the new. It also assumes some information to be completely understandable which is not. Google definitely helps to the true noob, as is my case.
Good luck and feel free to email with questions over book: metallickittycat@yahoo.com
Excellent for Instruction and Reference
2010-01-09
By D. Hutchinson (Menlo Park, CA)
This is a must have for an electronic designer. Intended for a first course in electronic design, it still achieves enough depth to be useful as a reference for a designer with a need to design out of his/her usual area of familiarity. It teaches electronic design as a chess like endeavor, where a knowledge of the characteristics of the different pieces, and the patterns that have been developed, leads to circuits of power (no pun intended) and elegance. So the heavily mathematical part of electrical engineering is not in this text, both for better and worse. A very enjoyable read also, for those who love electronics, even if no design project is at hand.
very good book

Very good book.
I'm a Physicist and I found the book perfect for learning electronics from my point of view.
