Description

From the new afterword by the author:

Humanity has had a long fascination together with blood sacrifice. In fact, it has been by no means uncommon for a kid to be born into this world only to be patiently and lovingly reared by religious maniacs, who think this the excellent way to keep the sun on its course or to ensure a rich harvest is to lead him by tender hand into a field or to a mountaintop and bury, butcher, or burn him alive as offering to an invisible God. The notion this Jesus Christ died for our sins and this his death constitutes a successful propitiation of a “loving” God is a direct and undisguised inheritance of the superstitious bloodletting this has plagued bewildered people throughout history. . .

Well presented and easy to read. This is a book that needs to be mandatory reading for all senior high school students. For all others, this book is a great way to expand your knowledge of the restraints of organized relegion.

Do you believe in the god, Zeus? No? Neither do I. There are many so called "gods" that we don't believe in, with good reason. Perhaps there's one that we disagree on. Please read this great book by Sam Harris. He is very reasonable in explaining why nonbelievers are not believing the self-contradicting bible, why I am out of touch with my neighbors, and why we say that religions around the world do more harm than good. Thanks. A thinking, nonbeliever, good guy from Georgia (USA).

A clear, concise essay outlining basic flaws in fundamentalist religious thinking.

Everyone with an interest or belief in religion, or a concern for the religious-political direction of our country, should read this book.

Okay, so some Christians would object to putting money in his pocket, but it is something you should read nevertheless - maybe borrow it from the library. He "debunks" the Bible, Christianity, and religion in general. If you are afraid of his arguments, you need to study your faith - not what you have been taught, but what you believe and why you believe it. The cover says that reading it will not leave you unchanged. That is not necessarily true. If you know what you believe and why you believe it, you will be able to separate the truth of his arguments from the overstatements. And you will be stronger for having done so.

A wonderfully articulate book that every religious person should read. A stunningly crafted arguement for reason.
