Customer rating is 3 of 5  Another show off of pictures   2009-09-15
By Tiger
This is not a good education book for beginners. It does show a lot of nice pictures. But no details of how these pictures taken. It gives many suggestions for better pictures as many other photography books do,but lacks the step-by-step instructions of how to apply those rules for nice pictures. It is more like a collection of the pictures of the author's friends. I found it is like most of other photograph books, no details on lighting (natural or studio) or composition or posing. For the most critical elements like lighting, posing and composition, it, like most other books, gives the principals only.
The book "Professional Secrets of Natural Light Portrait Photography " is much better because it tells you frankly the lighting and composition and posing of every pictures taken by the author.Douglas Allen Box 's book really offers something solid for improving photography.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Lots of Good Information   2009-08-20
By P.M.
For studio and outdoor portraits, this book has a lot of good information in a wide range of aspects in photographing children. From technical information and advice to how you can manage children during sessions to obtain good results. Note: everything sound very easy as it is written, but when you get hands-on, you will need to do your homework. Great portraits included as example. Author does a beautiful job in the portrait business.

This book is a great guide to help new photographers learning the world of portrait photography. I am just learning myself and found a lot of great advice, as well as a ton of tricks to use with small children. I use it all the time, it's a great buy!

I wanted to know how to keep a childs attention and this book gave me that information not all photos are always based on a subjects attention sometimes you get your best photos when you catch the subject off gaurd. This book is so informative and awesome I recomend it to anyone who is a serious photographer of childern.

The book has a lot of good pictures and examples but I was hoping for more step by step instructions on what equipment I need and how to pose babies and children.
